Aprons

Why YES ... yes I DO wear an apron most days, all day!

In my 20s, I did a lot of mural work and got in the habit of wiping my brushes and hands on my painter’s overalls. Fast forward to my 30s, and there's me as a new mom, still wiping my hands on my clothes.

I really did NOT fancy the aprons in the stores, so I decided to make my own. And you bet most have big, roomy pockets! They are reversible with adjustable neck straps fixed with vintage brooches instead of buttons. I find myself carrying eggs and garden treats in the gathered-up hem. I’ve used them to wipe dirty faces and tears. I've ripped them off to stop the bleeding or to dust madly when a surprise guest is in the driveway.

I feel undressed without them somehow now.

Here I am halfway through my 50s, and apron sewing week is now a once-a-year project, and I just finished a new batch. The one on the left is the only "carry over" from last year. I think I'm all set! Do YOU wear an apron? Old school girls give a shout!

I sat in on a lot of talks. The speakers knew their stuff. They were well-spoken and had solid info to share. But if I’m being honest, nothing really felt new. That surprised me. Then I realized why.
Hand straining bright pink vinegar into a glass jar on a wooden table

Several years ago, while scrolling through Pinterest, I came across a photo of the prettiest bright pink vinegar I’d ever seen. It was made with chive blossoms, and I remember thinking, “I have chives…I wonder if I could do that?”
