A Morning Well Spent
Every month, a group of ladies and I get together to do something fun. It’s not always educational. It’s not always homestead-related. But we always enjoy ourselves.
One of my favorite things we’ve done was a pottery day.
None of us were at the level to throw our own pieces. But we still wanted something pretty or practical to take home. So we went to a local studio and spent the morning glazing.
It was so fun to see what everyone picked. Soap dishes. Plates. Mugs. Bottles. A little bit of everything.
What surprised me most was the focus. Everyone leaned in. Quiet at times. Concentrating. Trying something new. Letting their creativity take over.
And we did it together.
Afterward, most of us took our finished pieces and entered them into the fair. That might have been my favorite part. Walking through and spotting each piece. Seeing the work we had done together, now sitting on display.
And even better, seeing ribbons next to them.
It was fun. It was simple. But it was also something more.
We talk a lot about learning skills. And that matters. But not every step has to be serious. Sometimes learning looks like trying something new with people you enjoy being around.
You don’t have to be an expert. You don’t have to get it perfect.
You just have to show up.
And when you do, you might walk away with more than just a finished piece. You might walk away with confidence. With encouragement. With a memory tied to the people who were right there beside you.
That’s the part that sticks.
