A Spoonful Of Memories
Several years ago, I attended a National Ladies Homestead Gathering event at a local lavender farm. We spent the day touring the farm, mixing our own herbal tea blends, and taking time enjoying one another's company in such a beautiful spot.
At the end of the day, we each received a little jar of lavender sugar from our Chapter Leadership. It was such a thoughtful way to remember the day.
Now, every six months or so, I make another batch. And every time I stir a spoonful into a cup of tea, I think about that farm. I think about those ladies. I think about the laughter, the conversations, and the lovely day we spent together.
It's funny how something so simple can hold so much. A recipe. A memory. An entire day spent with friends.
I think that's one of the things I appreciate most about learning alongside other women.
Yes, we come away with new ideas and new skills to try. But we also take a little bit of those experiences and friendships home with us.
Sometimes it's a jar of lavender sugar. Sometimes it's a favorite recipe or a tip shared over lunch. Sometimes it's a story that gets retold years later.
Somehow, these little things end up meaning much more than you expected. They become reminders of where we've been, what we've learned, and the people we shared it with.
And every time I sip my lavender tea, I get to revisit that sweet little memory all over again.
Lavender Sugar
Ingredients:
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tablespoon culinary lavender buds
Directions:
- Using a mortar and pestle or herb grinder, crush the lavender buds.
- Mix with the sugar and store in an airtight container.
- Let it sit for several days so the lavender can infuse the sugar.
- Stir a spoonful into tea, sprinkle it on shortbread or scones, or use it anywhere you'd like a little floral sweetness.
