Around The Planning Table

Miranda Johnson • November 6, 2026

Recently, our NLHG Executive Team came together for our annual planning meeting. Each year, we make it a priority to gather in person so we can sit around the same table, discuss ideas, and dream about what’s next for NLHG.

And believe me, we work! Our days are full from morning to night as we look back on the past year and plan for the one ahead.

But somewhere between all the planning, discussions, and decisions, there’s also plenty of laughter, catching up, and time spent simply enjoying one another’s company.

When we’re together, it feels more like a group of old friends than an Executive Team meeting. We even welcomed a new team member this year, and she fit right in.

That’s one of the things I appreciate most about NLHG. Whether we’ve known each other for years or are just getting acquainted, there’s always room for another woman at the table.

We’re all volunteers. Throughout the year, each of us gives our time and talents to help NLHG continue sharing its mission with women across the country. There are meetings, emails, projects, and plenty of things happening behind the scenes that most people never see.

But I don’t think any of us would trade the experiences and friendships we’ve gained along the way.

Every time a woman attends her first Gathering and finds a welcoming group of ladies, a new Chapter gets started, or someone makes a connection through our online community, we’re reminded why we do this.

I’m excited about what 2027 has in store for NLHG. But I’m just as grateful for the women I get to work alongside.

The friendships we’ve built around our own planning table are the same kinds of friendships we hope women find through NLHG.

And I’m grateful to be part of both.

We talk a lot about learning skills. And that matters. But not every step has to be serious. Sometimes learning looks like trying something new with people you enjoy being around.
